Donate a Car Without a Title in Georgia
Georgia's title rules
Georgia requires titles for vehicles model year 1986 and newer. Pre-1986 vehicles can sometimes be transferred via bill of sale and a copy of the most recent registration. For 1986+ vehicles, you need either the original title, a duplicate, or a court-ordered bonded title.
If the title is just lost (you know you had it), the fastest path is a duplicate title from Georgia DDS — $8 fee, file online or in person, 7-10 day mail turnaround. We can coordinate with you during this wait.
Bonded titles for unclear ownership
If you bought the vehicle without a proper title transfer (common with private sales of older cars), Georgia offers a 'bonded title' option. You purchase a surety bond equal to 1.5× the vehicle's value, file paperwork with Georgia DDS, and they issue a bonded title in your name. This title is fully valid; after 3 years the bond expires and the title becomes a regular title.
Bonded titles are more involved but they unlock the ability to donate. We've worked with donors who completed this process — call us with the details.
Pre-1986 vehicles
Georgia treats some pre-1986 vehicles as needing only a bill of sale and a copy of the most recent registration to transfer. We accept these donations. The paperwork burden is lower; the donation process is straightforward.
