Donate a Car with a Bad Transmission
Why transmission failures push donors to us
Transmissions are the #2 single most expensive vehicle repair (after engines). A rebuild on a modern 6-speed automatic runs $2,800-4,500; a CVT replacement can hit $5,500. Few cars over 8 years old are worth that investment.
Donors call us when the dealership or shop quote pushes the vehicle into 'not worth fixing' territory. We make the exit easy.
How we handle vehicles that don't shift
A car with a failed transmission can't be driven onto a tow truck — it must be loaded onto a flatbed. We use flatbed tows by default for any non-running or won't-shift vehicle. No upcharge.
If the car is in a tight spot (garage, behind another car, on a steep driveway), tell us when you book. We'll send a wrecker with appropriate equipment.
Salvage value of a failed-transmission car
Even with a dead transmission, your car has value at auction. The buyers are typically: (1) mechanics who rebuild trannys for resale, (2) parts harvesters who part out the rest of the car, (3) salvage yards. A 2010 Camry with bad transmission might sell for $1,200-1,800. A 1998 minivan might sell for $400-700. We tell you the realistic range upfront.
