Donate a Car with Parts Missing

The short version: Partially disassembled vehicles are case-by-case. We can usually accept vehicles missing minor parts (interior trim, bumpers, etc.). Vehicles missing major drivetrain components or sitting on the frame without wheels need a phone call to confirm.

What we can usually accept

  • Missing exterior trim (chrome, badging, side moldings)
  • Missing one or two doors (or all four, if vehicle was project)
  • Missing bumpers or fenders
  • Missing windshield (if vehicle is otherwise rolling)
  • Missing interior (seats, dash, headliner)
  • Missing battery or starter
  • Missing exhaust
  • Missing wheels (if you have them somewhere to remount, or the car is on a flatbed already)

Call us with photos and we'll confirm tow feasibility.

What we typically can't accept

  • Vehicle on jack stands with no wheels (we can't flatbed-load it without wheels in some cases)
  • Engine completely removed (vehicle won't have any salvage value at most auctions)
  • Cab and frame separated
  • Completely stripped frame (no body)
  • Burned-down hulk

These usually need to go directly to scrap, not auction. Call us anyway — sometimes the local scrap path still works out.

Calling first is critical

Don't surprise the tow driver with a partially-disassembled vehicle. Call us with the vehicle's current state, send photos if possible. We'll tell you if it's a feasible pickup or if you need to source parts back onto it first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I donate a car after car parts missing?
Yes. Cars Helping Kids accepts vehicles in nearly every donor situation including car parts missing. Call 770-871-9422 to discuss the specifics; most edge cases are solvable with the right paperwork.
Will I get a tax deduction for donating in this situation?
Yes. Regardless of situation, your federal tax deduction equals the actual auction sale price on IRS Form 1098-C (or up to $500 under the safe-harbor rule for low-value sales). Consult a tax advisor for your specific situation.
What paperwork is required for car parts missing?
Standard: clear title in your name plus the vehicle. Additional paperwork may include: lien release (if past loan), death certificate + executor papers (if inherited), insurance total-loss letter (if salvage), or DMV duplicate title (if lost).
