Wrecked, flood, fire, hail — what we accept

Post-accident vehicles with airbags deployed, frame damage, or major panel damage: typically accepted. Flood vehicles (interior water line up to or above the dash): accepted if the insurance company hasn't already taken title. Fire-damaged: accepted if the chassis is intact and the vehicle isn't an active hazardous-material event. Hail damage: very routine, doesn't slow us down at all.

The main filter is whether the vehicle can be safely loaded onto a flatbed in one piece. We pass on cars that have been disassembled to the unibody, separated into multiple chunks, or are co-mingled with active hazmat (battery fire residue, fuel leaks). Most other damage profiles are fine — our auction partners specialize in salvage.

Salvage title? Insurance buyback? Open claim?

Salvage title — yes, we accept these. Most damaged cars with salvage titles go to rebuilders and exporters at auction; sale prices are lower than clean-title cars but still material. Insurance buyback (you took the check, then bought the wrecked car back for a fraction): yes, you have title, we accept these. Open insurance claim: wait until it's closed and title is in your name before donating.

If the insurance company is still considering whether to total the car, talk to your adjuster first — they may offer more than the donation deduction is worth, or they may pay you the buyback option and leave the disposal to you (in which case, call us).

Common questions

What if the airbags are deployed?
Common, accepted. We just note it during intake so the auction partners price accordingly.
What about flood damage from the recent hurricane?
Yes — flood vehicles are routine for us, as long as you have a title and the insurance company hasn't taken it. Pick up is the same as any non-runner.
Will the tax deduction be much lower for a damaged car?
Deduction equals actual sale price. Damaged cars sell for less, so the deduction is lower than a clean equivalent — but for sales of $500 or less, IRS rules let you claim fair market value up to $500 without further proof.
What if it leaks fluid?
Light fluid leaks are normal and fine. Active fuel leaks or hazmat situations: we route a different partner. Call 770-871-9422 with the specifics.
