Donating a junk car vs. scrapping it

A junkyard pays $200–$600 for an average non-running sedan, depending on scrap metal prices that week and how much catalytic converter is intact. To get that, you have to either drive the car there (impossible if it doesn't run) or pay $75–$150 for a flatbed yourself. After the math, most junked sedans net the owner $100–$400.

Donating the same car: $0 in your pocket up front, but a tax-deductible receipt for up to $500 in claimed fair market value with no extra paperwork (the IRS small-donation rule), or the actual sale price if it sells higher. For a donor in the 22% tax bracket that's $110 of real tax savings on the no-receipt-needed path alone — and it costs you nothing to make happen.

How a junk car becomes program funding

Even dead-engine cars have value: working parts (alternators, transmissions, body panels, doors, seats), scrap metal weight, and the catalytic converter (often $50–$300 alone). Our auction partners specialize in salvage-grade vehicles and routinely get more than retail scrap yards, because they sell to a broader market — parts buyers and exporters, not just metal recyclers.

The proceeds, minus the actual tow cost, fund backpacks, weekend food bags, and tutoring hours for kids and families — donations welcomed from all 50 states. Your driveway gets cleared, the kid gets the backpack, you get a tax deduction the IRS recognizes. It's the rare three-way win where nobody had to write a check.

Common questions

How junked is too junked?
If it's a complete car — body, engine block, transmission, all four wheels still attached — we can usually take it. If it's been stripped to the frame, missing major components like the entire drivetrain, or partially crushed already, call us first.
Do I need to drain the gas, remove the battery, or do any prep?
No. Leave the keys (if you have them) under the seat or on the tire and our driver handles the rest. We don't need a clean interior, a working horn, or even tires that hold air — we have a flatbed with a winch.
What if I lost the title?
In Georgia and many neighboring states we can apply for a duplicate title at the DMV with a few forms and your signature, especially for older junk cars under salvage thresholds. Call 770-871-9422 with your state.
Does the car have to be in my driveway?
No — we pick up from storage yards, fields, back roads, behind a friend's barn, body shop lots, anywhere the flatbed can reach. Just describe the access during the intake call.
