Boat donation: pontoon, sailboat, fishing, ski, jet

Power boats up to about 40 feet (most cabin cruisers, walkarounds, runabouts, pontoons, deck boats), sailboats up to about 35 feet (most cruising sloops, day sailers, catalina-class), personal watercraft (jet ski, sea-doo, wave runner), and fishing boats of essentially any type — we accept all of them. Older boats, project boats, and non-running boats are very common in our pipeline.

We coordinate land-side pickup for trailered boats and dock-side coordination for boats still in the water. Trailer included or not — either works. The towing partner handles the trailer side; if the boat is moored or stored at a marina, we work with the marina on extraction logistics so you're not the middleman.

Title, hull ID, and the boat-specific paperwork

Boats are titled differently state-to-state — some states title hulls separately from trailers, some title both, some title neither for older small craft. We handle the matrix; you just bring whatever title or registration documents you have, plus the hull identification number (HIN) located on the starboard side of the transom.

After sale, you receive an IRS Form 1098-C just like a car donation. Boat sale prices can be substantial — running pontoons routinely fetch $3,000–$15,000 at auction, larger cabin cruisers and sailboats $5,000–$50,000+. Donors with higher-value boats often prefer our consignment route (see /consignment) for a proceeds split.

Common questions

What about the trailer — does it have to come too?
Either way works. We accept trailered or non-trailered boats. If the trailer comes, that's one less thing for you to dispose of; if you want to keep it, we coordinate a transfer to a launch ramp.
Is the boat too old / too rough to take?
Probably not. Even non-running, rough-cosmetic boats have parts value — engines, outdrives, electronics, hardware. If the hull is intact enough to move, we can take it.
What if it's stored at a marina I owe slip fees on?
We coordinate with marina ops to remove the boat. You're responsible for any fees you owe up to extraction; we handle the physical move.
Can I deduct fair market value of a boat?
Same IRS rule as cars: deduction equals actual sale price, with the $500 floor exception for low-sale donations. For higher-value boats consider consignment instead — you get a proceeds share plus a charitable deduction on the gifted portion.
