Smog Check / Emissions Inspection
State-required vehicle emissions test — not needed when donating in most states.
What it means
Some states (California, Georgia metro Atlanta, Texas, others) require an emissions test before a vehicle can change ownership. For most charitable donations, this requirement is waived because the vehicle is going to auction or recycler, not back to the road. Check your local DMV; the charity will guide you if a workaround form is needed.
