Itemize (Deductions)
Listing individual deductions on your tax return rather than taking the standard deduction.
What it means
To claim a vehicle donation as a tax deduction, you must itemize on Schedule A of Form 1040. As of 2025, the standard deduction is $14,600 (single) / $29,200 (married). If your total itemized deductions don't exceed those thresholds, donating a vehicle won't reduce your tax bill — though it still helps the charity.
