Form 1098-C
IRS form used to document a vehicle donation worth more than $500.
What it means
Form 1098-C, 'Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes,' is issued by the charity to the donor after the vehicle is sold. It reports the gross proceeds from the sale, which becomes the donor's federal tax deduction (if itemizing). The charity must issue the form within 30 days of sale, and the donor attaches Copy B to Form 8283 if claiming over $500.
