Request and acceptance
You provide the vehicle, ownership, condition, location, and contact details. We review whether the donation can be accepted. A form submission alone does not transfer ownership or guarantee pickup.
Pickup is scheduled
For accepted donations, a towing or transport partner contacts you. Pickup is offered at no charge to the donor. Route, access, title, and condition issues can affect timing.
Title and vehicle are processed
The title or other permitted ownership documents are handled according to the applicable state and sale requirements. Donors should follow the instructions provided for plates, signatures, keys, and release-of-liability steps.
The vehicle is sold or otherwise disposed of
Most donated vehicles are sold through an appropriate wholesale, auction, salvage, or recycling channel. The condition and market determine the result. We do not promise a sale price or tax value before sale.
Direct costs are paid
Towing, auction or sale fees, title work, payment processing, donor support, and other operating costs may be deducted. The amount varies by vehicle and transaction; there is no honest universal percentage for every donation.
Net proceeds support charitable priorities
Net proceeds are available for the foundation's charitable work, including stated priorities such as school supplies, food support, tutoring, and seasonal assistance. These are program priorities—not a claim that each vehicle funds every activity or a fixed number of beneficiaries.
Required donor documentation is issued
We provide the acknowledgement and, when required, Form 1098-C information after the sale or qualifying disposition. A deduction is not automatic; donors generally must itemize and follow IRS substantiation rules.
Verify us before donating
Search the IRS by legal name or EIN at Tax Exempt Organization Search. Review the independent Charity Navigator profile, which currently states “Not Rated” due to insufficient public filing data, or the exact ProPublica organization record. Our media and citation kit collects additional public entity sources. Read the IRS vehicle-donation rules. Questions or correction requests: donate@carshelpingkids.org.
